Ingersoll Turning Inserts, O.D. Holders & I.D. Boring Tools

Shop Ingersoll turning tools for external profiles, internal bores and Swiss-type machining. Compare carbide and specialty turning inserts, square-shank and C-Adapter holders, FlexTurn systems, T-Absorber boring bars and T-Modular heads. Start with the operation and insert designation, then select the holder connection, hand and reach for the machine and workpiece.

Carbide & RHINO Turning Inserts

Browse carbide turning inserts for roughing, general turning, profiling and finishing. Compare the listed shape, size, corner radius, grade and chipbreaker with the holder’s specified insert. RHINO categories include their own insert configurations; use the exact family and designation when matching a replacement.

Cermet, Ceramic, CBN & PCD Inserts

Specialty substrates offer alternatives for designated materials and cutting conditions. Compare cermet and ceramic inserts alongside CBN and PCD options using the application guidance for each grade. Workpiece hardness, interruptions, finish requirements and setup rigidity help determine which edge and substrate are appropriate.

O.D. Turning Holders

Select square-shank or C-Adapter O.D. holders for the required insert style and approach to the cut. Positive, negative and RHINO configurations are grouped separately. Confirm holder hand, shank dimensions, insert designation and coolant arrangement, as well as clearance around the chuck, shoulder and finished profile.

Boring Bars & T-Absorber Systems

For internal turning, compare standard boring holders, T-Modular bars and T-Absorber anti-vibration boring bars. Minimum bore, usable reach and the holder arrangement matter as much as insert selection. Choose a practical bar diameter and supported overhang, and confirm the compatible head and clamping components.

FlexTurn & Swiss-Type Holders

FlexTurn separates interchangeable heads from machine-side shanks for Swiss-type tooling arrangements. Conventional Swiss O.D. holders and rear tool-post holders provide other configurations. Match the selected head, shank, cutting hand and insert pocket to the available station and the part’s access requirements.

T-Modular Heads & T-Micro Tools

T-Modular turning heads connect to the matching bar or holder to build internal, external or specified Y-axis assemblies. T-Micro inserts and sleeves address listed small-bore operations such as boring, profiling, grooving and threading. Select the operation first, then verify the minimum bore and supported reach.

Match the Insert Designation, Grade & Chipbreaker

Use the holder’s specified insert shape, size and clamping arrangement to establish fit. Then select the grade and chipbreaker for the work material, feed and cut. Where both ANSI and ISO references are shown, compare the complete designation and dimensional details rather than treating a partial code as a match.

Control Bore Clearance & Assembly Reach

Check the smallest bore the bar or head can enter, the depth to the feature and the space needed for chips and coolant. A longer assembly may require a different bar or damping arrangement. Reduction sleeves, setup tools and machine-side holders must suit the selected boring system.

Complete the Lathe Tooling Package

Grooving, cutoff and threading often need a separate tool even when they follow the turning operation. Select each insert and holder for its intended feature, and confirm compatibility with the machine station. Keep the correct sleeves, cartridges and service parts available for the assemblies you use.

Ingersoll Turning Tools: Selection Questions

How do positive and negative turning inserts differ?
Their insert relief and holder arrangements differ, affecting cutting geometry, edge support and application. Choose the insert specified for the holder and the workpiece. Positive and negative inserts are not interchangeable simply because their outline looks similar.
How do I select a boring bar?
Check the minimum bore, feature depth, insert approach and machine-side connection. Compare bar diameter, usable overhang, coolant provision and the manufacturer’s setup guidance. Overall length alone does not establish how deep the assembly can machine.
What is T-Absorber used for?
T-Absorber is an anti-vibration boring system for supported internal-machining arrangements. Select the bar, head, reduction sleeve and holder as a compatible assembly and follow the recommended reach and setup conditions.
Are FlexTurn heads supplied with shanks?
Heads and shanks have separate categories. Check the individual item or kit description for included components, and select the matching FlexTurn connection and machine-side dimensions.
Can a T-Micro insert handle every small-bore operation?
No. The cutting geometry determines whether the insert is for boring, profiling, grooving, threading or another listed operation. Confirm the minimum bore, usable depth and matching sleeve for the specific insert.
Which insert should I use for finishing?
Choose a grade, chipbreaker and corner radius suited to the material, finish target and setup. The appropriate choice also depends on feed, depth of cut and interruptions; use the selected family’s application guidance rather than a universal finishing grade.
